Join us for an extraordinary event featuring the
unique artwork of Lindsey Bessanson.
Lindsey’s insects are like tiny framed jewels lit from within.
Her pieces will be on display in the RAC gallery for
the entire month of October and we will be
hosting an artist reception on
Friday, October 17th from 6-9PM.
“Lindsey Bessanson is equally comfortable in her Phoenix Arizona home with her husband and four dogs as she would be working in a metal foundry pouring sculptures in bronze, aluminum, and iron. A classically trained artist and graduate of the esteemed School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Bessanson has long had a fascination with the macabre and has used her schooling and passion to create a litany of sculptures within the steampunk genre.
The initial fine art works from which Bessanson’s insect sculpture trace their heritage were cast in sterling silver as early as 2005. She found that the sterling insects lacked the beauty found in their natural state and began developing a process to transform her insect specimens into the objects in her dreams. Her clockwork insects have been featured in numerous publications and the demand for her original pieces have lead to commissions for her work from around the world.
Often the manner in which they are displayed draws as much attention as the anachronistic insects themselves. Bessanson’s works are custom framed in an ornate fashion that is highly complimentary to the bejeweled creation on display. Her pieces even include soft LED lighting hidden within the decorative frames to properly light the insect inside.”
