Fame, fashion, photography, and pop culture are the inspirations for my work. I am fascinated with how we, as an American culture, glorify these fads and famous people to watch them fail. We love them and love to tear them down. I paint my portrayal this with Gothic undertones, which I feel give the glamour of our Pop culture a darkness. Along with my love of all things art, fashion and pop; I love facial expressions. They have an empowering attitude which I love to portray. They make the dark side of my artistic portrayal seductive so that it becomes a guilty pleasure for my audience.
I started drawing with charcoal when I was in sixth grade. I was always creative and used art as an outlet. When I was in high school I took art as an elective. I started experimenting with acrylic paint and watercolor. I was interested in fashion photography and all the glamorous pictures in my teen magazines. I was really inspired by the female figure. Everyone looked famous and I attempted to capture that. When I took advanced art and submitted my portfolio they told me I had no direction or a themed series to continue pursuing art in college so I took a break. After college, I needed to focus my creative efforts. I started painting again and really perfected my ideas. I have been lucky enough to showcase my work to others and I feel so blessed it has been well received.
My vision is to inspire others to be true to their raw emotions and ideas. I want to empower individuals to honor themselves and embrace their insecurities that they feel won’t be accepted. I want people to see my work and relate it to something they are or something they yearn to be and inspire them to be brave to pursue it.
